As Vertas Group celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD), the company is keen to highlight the meaningful actions it’s taking to support advancing gender equality and inclusion in the workplace.

In response to this year’s IWD theme, Inspire Inclusion, the Group is pleased to share its steps to promote a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. At all levels of the business, the company strives to create an environment where everyone feels empowered to succeed.

Just last year, the company were proud to sign the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s Gender Equality Business Pledge, highlighting a commitment to supporting gender equality. The Group is also keen to employ initiatives and policies as part of their ongoing efforts.

From supporting women’s advancement with leadership development programmes such as Aspire to Inspire, to creating inclusive workspaces with Menopause leave. Our colleagues have shared how they inspire inclusion, going far beyond surface-level gestures.

To honour IWD, we asked four of our colleagues from across the Group the following question:

How do you actively promote a culture of gender equality and inclusion at Vertas Group? What specific steps do you take to inspire others?

Natalie Finnigan, Associate Director Cost Consultancy, Concertus Design and Property Consultants:

I try to promote a culture of mutual support and understanding, where individuals’ different strengths and experiences are recognised and utilised to support our clients and colleagues. Everyone has unique strengths and weaknesses. A strong team understands these and finds ways to bring out the best in each person.

My team will challenge me as often as I challenge them. I welcome this; it is done with no judgment or criticism, just a desire to improve and be the best version of ourselves that we can be…hopefully, this is inspiring. Still, I take real joy and pride from seeing the development, progress and success of others I’ve supported on their journey.

Reece Nunn, Vertas Group Head of Marketing:

I actively promote a culture of gender equality and inclusion at Vertas Group by treating everyone with respect and dignity. I consciously listen to others’ perspectives and acknowledge their contributions. I also try to be a positive role model and advocate for gender equality in the workplace to inspire others. For instance, I encourage my colleagues to participate in training sessions and workshops on gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity. We have team members who play a pivotal role in our EDI Group and are Inclusivity Champions.

As a Group, we promote open communication and encourage everyone to share their ideas and concerns. I aim to create a welcoming and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Zara Zurowski, Lead Partner of People Services, Vertas Group:

Through living and breathing our Group People Strategy to make inclusion an everyday reality, we create an environment where everyone feels welcomed and their contribution recognised to reach their highest potential.

In my role, this means ensuring our policies are inclusive and we have zero tolerance for gender bias. I invite feedback on opportunities and encourage everyone to always challenge behaviours that do not align with our values. We also have our Inclusivity Champions who are passionate about taking action to ensure our inclusion objectives are achieved.”

Louise Gilbert, Associate Director, Finance, Concertus Design and Property Consultants:

“Since my time at the Vertas Group, I have worked to create an inclusive culture by providing an environment that is supportive and understanding of individuals’ needs, treating everyone fairly, and promoting a healthy work-life balance.

I actively encourage all to develop, learn, and aspire to be the best version of themselves. Whether this is supporting colleagues as they progress through apprenticeships or providing guidance in their professional development.

I aim to inspire others around me with my positive attitude and by respecting everyone.”
